The City of Refuge believes that our youth are an important part of the church both today and tomorrow.  Along with being a part of our regular morning worship, we also have some age specific activities available.

Youth Sunday School

We offer Junior High (grades 6-8) and Senior High (grades 9-12) classes from 9:15 am until 10:15 every Sunday. The study of God’s Word is highlighted by a focus on the practical application of doctrine to the lives of our teens.  Giving the youth a safe and comfortable place to wrestle adolescent issues and sharpen their everyday faith is our primary goal. Please feel free to join us as we take this journey together!

Youth Discipleship

Mid-Week Study – Wednesday evening youth group meetings are wonderful times for our teens to build relationships with their peers and their adult leaders.  From 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., our church opens its doors for gym activities, games, and fellowship. At 7:00 we enjoy a meal together, followed by a group game, group Bible study, and small-group discussions.  Activities wrap up at 8:45. Our focus is on giving our teens a place to discuss the difficult questions of their life and faith in an environment where God’s word and the experience of their mature leaders can guide their decision making.

Student Leadership Team

This winter we are beginning a student leadership team that will meet on Sunday evenings to go deeper into the scriptures, receive leadership training, and help plan and lead the ministry to their peers. This program will be by invitation as we identify those teens in our group who are striving for a deeper level of faith and show leadership characteristics in their everyday lives. The program will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. the fourth Sunday of every month.

Sounds of Youth Praise Team

On the fourth Sunday morning of every month, worship at City of Refuge follows a more contemporary, Gospel-music oriented style, as we dedicate the service to our young people. Teens possessing musical abilities or a love for worshipping with music are encouraged to join the Voices of Refuge praise team that Sunday. Please contact Worship Leader Russell Thompson for more information on this exciting opportunity.

Youth Athletics

Through organized and competitive sports leagues, City of Refuge Church strives to provide some of the structure that urban and suburban young people need to succeed.

We have found athletics to be an effective tool for teaching spiritual life lessons on patience, perserverance, teamwork, and leadership. The relationships formed on our courts and fields have been instrumental in promoting a better relationship with Christ in the lives of our kids.

We have completed several years of competitive basketball and football and will be adding volleyball and baseball programs in the near future. For more information on youth athletics, we invite you to visit http://www.forgeforfamilies.org.

Service and Missions

Our youth ministry is focused on giving our young people the opportunity to do service for those in the body, their local community, and missions abroad.  Their will be a monthly service project where all junior high and senior high students can serve. Activities in the past have included everything from cleaning a local park to serving a meal at a homeless shelter. In addition to these monthly activities we will be taking two major missions trips a year.  The will focus on seeing a new part of God’s kingdom and looking beyond our needs to meet others. Past trips have included Chicago, Memphis, Appalachia (Kentucky), and New Orleans.
