In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus said, “Don’t think these little children are worth nothing. I tell you that they have angels in heaven.”

We remember that at City of Refuge. And one place that memory serves us is at Children’s Church.

At 10:30 each Sunday – except for the first one each month -- children start in the adult worship service but around one-third of the way through worship, they’re released as a group to go downstairs and a service designed just for them.

Children’s Church, planned for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade, includes songs, memory verses, testimonies of young people, an offering, a message, Bible games, and adventures.

In the past, among our speakers have been motorcyclists, actors and dancers. The children have taken imaginary trips to see young David anointed king by Samuel, acted out many Bible events, and even visited an imaginary Heaven. They have tried to carry Jesus’ cross, tasted vinegar and handled a prickly crown of thorns.

As you can perhaps tell, children’s services are designed to help each young person start a relationship with God, to begin growing as His disciple, and to worship God authentically, at his or her age-appropriate level.

As mentioned earlier, once a month children remain for the entire adult worship service. On the 1st Sunday, when COR celebrates Holy Communion, children remain with their families through the complete adult worship.
